70-200 F/4 IS with 2x extender. I have seen very little written about this combo and nearly everything that is said is not complimentary. I took the combo out the other evening and was pleasantly surprised with the results. I used a 5D mark iv so PDAF autofocus is possible despite a maximum aperture of F/8. The new Series III extenders have improved optical and electronic contacts and the enable faster responses from the lens. The 7D II is one of the few cameras that allows the use of a 1.4x and 2x extender with full use of AF and exposure information transfers. The newer series III extenders has a more ivory-white color to better match the newer With a mirrorless camera like the Canon EOS R I have no problems using an insane combination of Canon EOS R, EF Control Ring Adapter, Extender EF 1.4x II and Extender EF 2x II, giving the equivalent of a 170-1,700mm f/12-16 lens!
